Mekanism Site Redesign

In 2021, Mekanism decided their rapid upward mobility necessitated an equally impressive redesign of their site, mekanism.com. The site had not been updated in over a decade, and had since become difficult to supply with content updates in keeping with Mekanism’s ambitions, suffered heavy load times and a site hierarchy that did not reflect the company as it had evolved. In addition to a new site architecture and CMS, the agency also undertook a full visual design rebrand, starting from the ground up to establish a cleaner, vibrant look and feel.

The project necessitated a detailed triple bid from three very talented digital agencies, an audit of current stakeholders and the formulation of a well-considered wish list in order to make the most thorough set of requirements possible for the incoming agency. We selected Haus, a word-class digital agency, to take our simple requirements and barebones wireframes turn them into discovery-led design, and finally, an elegant and minimalist developed final product.

A headless CMS was also built out in order to make operations a breeze for the marketing department internally, as well as incorporating a blog, podcast, and open jobs plugin that seamlessly tied into the recruiters’ job board platform. The agency was supplied with versatile, tested templates and modules which provided a solid framework to be used, adapted to their growing content needs going forward.

Since the brief included a minimalist, ‘objectography’ approach, we undertook a photo bid in tandem with our visual design lifecycle in order to maximize our efforts and enter market as soon as possible. Stian Rasmussen of Marin was selected as the winning photographer. Our two-day shoot included a wide range of stop motion animation assets as well as still life, and finally, Mekanism’s trademark crash helmet.  Post-production of animated and still assets was performed by the talented designs and animators of Mekanism’s studio.
